A Legacy of Mission

In 1869, eight women gathered at Tremont Methodist Episcopal Church in Boston and organized the Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society. They raised money to send two missionaries to India, a woman doctor and woman teacher. United Methodist Women is the successor to that and other women’s missionary societies. One hundred and fifty years later, United Methodist Women is the largest faith-based women’s mission organization in the world, changing lives for women, children, youth, and families down the street and around the globe. United Methodist Women is a unique movement for transformation in our church and our world.

We have inherited a legacy of bold, courageous action. What will our legacy be? At Assembly 2018 United Methodist Women will officially celebrate our 150th Anniversary. You will hear and read bold stories of courageous women who came before us. You will also find spaces and tools for you to vision the future and plan your own personal legacy to support future women in mission.

The Legacy Fund is an important part of this celebration. The Legacy Fund will permanently sustain the work of United Methodist Women. That means that your gifts to this endowment now will support women in mission in the future. Your gifts will stand alongside United Methodist Women for decades to come. Your gifts will enable our great organization to continue to change lives for women, children, youth, and families down the street and around the globe for the next 150 years.
